Series notes:
The train control diagrams used by the Tasmanian Railways are in chart form, based on a Victorian model. They were used by the Traffic Branch, later Operations Branch, to depict journey times on Tasmanian government railway lines and maintain control of all trains on Tasmania's single line rail network. The diagrams list stations and stops in order down the right and left hand side of the folio (eg. Hobart, Newtown, Moonah etc through to Launceston). Across the top of the folio are columns with entries for such information as: 'Train', 'Load', 'Stock', 'Empties', 'Wheat' and 'Drivers Name' etc. Beneath these columns runs a time chart divided into hourly blocks, which are divided again into 10 minute sub-columns. Graphs cover a period of 24 hours. They are the legal authority for the location and travel of all trains and are used in evidence at Boards of Inquiry in the event of collisions and accidents. In addition to charts for Tasmania there are also a small number of sample charts from the Victorian Railways.

These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives
