Series notes:
This series consists of folders of papers and drawings documenting the construction, maintenance and alteration of Tasmanian Government Railways owned cottages for employees and station buildings. They were transferred to Australian Archives in 1993 from the Invermay Civil Engineering Branch Drawing Office. Most of the cottages and many of the stations buildings had been disposed of at that time. The folders are constructed of buff coloured cardboard held together at the sides with tape. They are marked on the front top left corner with the name or location of the building and each folder is numbered. The numbers are partly repeated; station folders (often containing 4 or more stations) are numbered from 1 to 53, while cottage folders run from 1 to 625. The cottage numbers have been allocated in areas. The folders contain drawings, mainly on tracing paper, including site plans, architectural plans showing layouts and alterations, history cards which show the maintenance and alteration history of the building and materials lists for alteration and construction purposes. The series is no longer actively used, although Councils occasionally request details of sewerage and other underground facilities provided to buildings that have since been removed from their original site. The index to Station Building folders is in a bound folder at the beginning of the series. There are also a number of other unnumbered folders at this location. They include folders on camp wagons, reports on building conditions along various lines, General Conditions of Contracts, standard buildings and standard details.

These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives
