Description:
The administration of justice in minor civil and criminal matters in the district of Penguin. The local magistrate/Justices also presided over cases in the Licensing Court and heard appeals under the Assessment Acts.~;;By 1989 with the establishment of the Magistrates Court of Tasmania, there were only four local courts remaining, Burnie, Devonport, Launceston & Hobart. Some rural areas were serviced by the Local Court on Circuit from one of these four courts.
