Description:
The Lilydale area (then know as the Upper Piper) was first settled by Europeans in the early 1860s. The initial local governing body established in 1872 was the Tankerville Road Trust. This was succeeded in 1908 by the Lilydale Municipal Council. Lilydale was largely absorbed into the Launceston City Council in May 1985.
