Description:
Montagu is on the northwest Coast of Tasmania. In 1870, an application was made for the establishment of a school at River Montagu, situated thirty to forty miles from Circular Head. The school was considered to be too remote to attract a professional to oversee the school, so Mr Saward, a local farmer was given charge of the school.
