Description:
Brooks High School is a co-educational government school located in Rocherlea, a suburb north of Launceston. It caters for students from Grade seven to ten. The history of the school dates back to 1948 when the Newnham Hall Community School, the first secondary modern school in Australia, was opened. The school's name was then changed to the G.V. Brooks Community School, named after G.V.Brooks the former Director- General of Education. The school became Brooks High School in 1960. The school's motto was chosen in 1949. The headmaster at the time R.L.Whitford,revealed in 1949 that the words for the school motto were not to be in Latin, but were to be in an Indigenous language and "Bukmak djama bukmak Gornggayun" meaning "everybody work, everybody help" was chosen. ;;
