Description:
Facilitate release of manpower, rationed materials and machinery, and encourage production of commodities required by the Commonwealth plan for agriculture. In conformity with the Commonwealth plan for the organisation of agriculture 13 District War Agricultural Committees were established in Tasmania in 1943 by the Department of Agriculture. Membership was honorary but a full time Secretary was to be employed by each Committee. The Deloraine District War Agricultural Committee held its inaugural meeting on 14 October. The Committee relieved the District Agriculture Officers of much detailed work in connection with release of manpower, supply of rationed materials and machinery, and encouraging increased production and production of commodoties required under the Commonwealth plan. In late 1944 the Committee (in common with the other DWACs) focused on increasing dairy production and in 1945 on obtaining the release of men and women from the armed forces to their families' farms. After the end of hostilities the Commonwealth scaled back its control of agriculture. Following a Departmental review of their activities the District War Agricultural Committees ceased operating at the end of March 1946.~
