Description:
On the evening of Tuesday 7th February 1967 the Governor Sir Charles Gairdner established the Governor's Fire Relief Fund (not to be confused with State and Commonwealth Government Relief Funds) to aid those affected by the bushfires in southern Tasmania. On the 11th February Executive Council appointed the State Relief (Bush Fires) Committee to administer the Governor's Fund. On the 4th September the Committee reported that 2304 claims for relief had been received and over $5 million donated to the Fund had been distributed.
