Description:
The agency (usually referred to as TDR) was created by a review of the merger of the Tasmanian Development Authority, the Mines Department and the Industrial Services Division (but not the Industrial Relations Branch or the Tasmanian Industrial Commission) of the Department of Employment, Industrial Relations and Training. The formal existence of the Authority continued until 1 July 1995 when its Act was amended to transfer its powers to the Board of Tasmania Development and Resources. The Trade Measurement Inspectorate was transferred to the Office of Consumer Affairs (SR1995/9) on 1 March 1995. The Industry Safety and Mines Division (but not Mineral Resources Tasmania) was detached from TDR to create the Workplace Standards Authority, and the Major Events Unit was transferred to TDR from the Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation (SR1996/31) on 27 March 1996. A little over a year later, on 21 May 1997, it was transferred to the Department of Premier and Cabinet (SR1997/51). At the same time responsibility for the training of skilled engineering technologists was transferred to the Department of Vocational Education and Training. As part of a reorganisation of the State Service following a change of government TDR was amalgamated on 18 September 1998 with the the Department of Tourism and a number of specialised Offices and Boards to form a Department of State Development.~
