Description:
The Commissioner for Licensing was established under the Licensing Act 1976. ;;The Act also established the Licensing Board consisting of a Chairman and two members to report to the Commissioner. ;;;;The Office provided administrative support for the Licensing Board of Tasmania and the Commissioner for Licensing, which are separate entities established under the Liquor and Accommodation Act 1990. Acting together as the State's Licensing Authority, they had joint responsibilities, including regulation of the sale of liquor in premises licensed to sell liquor, and regulation of the standards of those premises; regulation of the sale of liquor in premises selling liquor under the authority of a liquor permit; monitoring and investigating the operation of licensed and permitted premises; and licensing and maintenance of standards of premises providing overnight accommodation for tourists or travellers. ;;;;The Commissioner for Licensing was responsible to the relevant Minister for the administration of the Liquor and Accommodation Act 1990. ;;;;The statutory title of Commissioner for Licensing is still used but the Office was closed in April 2000 when it became the Licensing Branch of the Dept of Treasury & Finance.;;;;
