The Health Advancement Division incorporated a range of services delivered in community and public settings, directed to the promotion and protection of the health and wellbeing of Tasmanians.;;;;The division was made up of seven service delivery units, as follows.;;The Public and Environment Health Service provided promotion and screening services and information to prevent illness and protect the health of the Tasmanian community. Services provided included Health Protection Services (immunisation, epidemiological services, occupational health advice, health impact assessments and fluoridation); Environmental Health Services (tobacco control, shellfish quality, infectious disease control, food safety and nutrition promotion, water quality, toxicology, incident response and public health advice, and injury prevention); Sexual Health Services (sexual health clinics, needle and syringe availability program, education, training and support in accordance with the National HIV Aids and Related Diseases Strategy); Health Physics (Radiation Control Act licensing, compliance and monitoring); and Pharmaceutical Services (processing permits and monitoring Poisons Act 1971 compliance). ;;;;The Scientific Service included forensic medical services, pathology and clinical forensic medicine, and public health microbiology services. ;;;;Health and Wellbeing Population Groups provided services in the areas of youth health, men's health, women's health, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, migrant health and healthy ageing. Direct services were provided to women through the women's health access program and to older persons through the Seniors Bureau. ;;;;The Family, Child and Youth Health Service provided assessment, education, early intervention, support and referral services to promote the health of children, their families and young people. ;;;;The Oral Health Service provided dental care for children and adults who are recipients of health care cards and/or pension concession cards and all children aged up to 18 years of age. Health promotion in oral health underpins the service. ;;;;The Alcohol and Drug Service provided services, information and support to people with substance abuse problems and their families, together with preventative community education. ;;;;The Cancer Screening and Control Service administered the Cancer Screening and Control Service through the purchase of services from BreastScreen Tasmania Services and the provision of the Cervical Cancer Prevention Program, cancer education and information and policy development.
