The North West Regional Water (Arrangements) Act 1997 abolished an existing authority and re-established the body as a Joint Authority under the Local Government Act 1993 as the North West Water Authority. ;;;;Subsequently In July 2000 the Authority adopted "Cradle Coast Water" as a trade name and in December of the following year, this new name became the Authority's legal entity.;;;;Cradle Coast Water was owned by, and was the principal supplier of bulk water to Circular Head, Waratah-Wynyard, Central Coast, Devonport, Latrobe and Kentish Councils.;;;;In 2008, State Cabinet approved a Taskforce recommendation to reform the industry and this was underpinned by the formation of four new regional water corporations to deliver the services, Southern Water, Ben Lomond Water and Cradle Mountain Water along with Onstream who provides a statewide common service for billing, information technology and payroll services.;;;;The water corporations officially began operating in July 2008 with the goal of improvement in services and the development of vital infrastructure.
