Description:
This Service was formed by the amalgamation of the Child, Youth and Family Support Division and some parts of the Health Advancement Division. It was known as the Children and Families Division until November 2008 when due to organisational restructuring within the Department it was renamed Disability Child Youth and Family Services. In 2010-11 disability and family support services was outsourced to community sector management and it became Children and Youth Services (CYS). Functions and services of CYS include Child Health and Parenting Service, Child Protection Services, Community Youth Justice, Ashley Youth Detention Centre, Family Violence Counselling and Support Services, Adoption Services and Out-of-Home Care. As of October 2022 with the abolition of the Department of Communities, CYS moved to the new Department for Education, Children and Young People. While still referred to as CYS, the Department website often refers to the Service as Children, Youth and Family Services.
