The Liquor & Gaming Branch was formed by the merging of the Gaming Operations & Liquor Licensing Branches within the Revenue Gaming & Licensing Division of the Department of Treasury & Finance. ;;;;The key functions of the Branch in relation to gaming are to provide administrative support to the Tasmanian Gaming Commission in the discharge of its statutory role to regulate gaming, including gaming in casinos, hotels and clubs, Internet gaming and wagering, and minor gaming for charitable or not-for-profit purposes; regulate gaming operations in casinos, hotels and clubs, and ensure that gaming operations are conducted in accordance with legislative requirements; and research and investigate matters relating to gaming, including the probity and financial stability of persons involved in the conduct of gaming operations, and that premises are suitable for the conduct of gaming operations. ;;;;The key function of the Branch in regard to licensing is to provide administrative support to the Commissioner for Licensing and the Licensing Board of Tasmania, which are separate entities established under the Liquor and Accommodation Act 1990.
