Description:
The Environment Division had responsibility for overseeing the management, protection and enhancement of the Tasmanian environment, which was achieved through a broad range of environmental services provided to Local and State government, industry and the community.;;;;The Division's many roles included ensuring development proposals meet appropriate environmental guidelines; providing environmental and planning policy advice; and measuring and reporting on indicators of environmental performance. In addition, the Division had the leading role in the development of State Environment Protection Policies and regulations for environmental management. ;;;;The Environment Protection Authority was established through amendments to the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 in 2007. Commencing on 1 July 2008, the new Authority took over the functions of the Environment Division.
