As a result of the State Government's Tasmania Tomorrow initiative; the Tasmanian Academy, the Tasmanian Polytechnic and the Tasmanian Skills Institute commenced in 2009 as the new education providers for post Year 10 students.;;;;According to the enabling legislation, the Education & Training (Tasmanian Polytechnic) Act 2009, the functions of the Polytechnic are as follows:;;;;1. to provide and promote, in accordance with any directions provided by the Minister, post-Year 10 education and training to enable students to acquire qualifications and participate in the workforce and further education and training.;;;;2. to provide services, career development support and other support for students.;;;;3. if practicable, to consult and enter into partnerships with other education providers, including schools, in respect of making available to persons in rural and isolated communities post-Year 10 education and training.;;;;4. to advise the Minister of any significant development relating to the provision of;;post-Year 10 education and training. ;;;;A Board of Directors and chief executive officer are statutory positions under the Act to administer and manage the Polytechnic. ;;;;Courses available include Business, Creative Arts, Health & Community Services, ;;Science & the Environment, Technology & Trades and Tourism & Hospitality. Six campuses operate in the south of the State, six in the north and five in the north-west.;;;;In December 2011, the Minister for Education and Skills announced a Review into the Role and Function of Tasmania's Public VET Providers. On July 1 2013 the Tasmanian Polytechnic and the Tasmanian Skills Institute were merged to form TasTAFE.
