Councils were divested of their role in managing water and sewerage under the Act. However, Cradle Coast Water continues to be the main supplier of bulk water for the north west region. The principal objectives under the Act for the three regional Corporations are as follows:;;;;(a) to promote the efficient delivery of water supply and provision of sewerage services;;(b) to encourage water conservation, demand management of water and the re-use of water on an economic and commercial basis;;(c) to be a successful business and, to this end to operate its activities in accordance with good commercial practice and to maximise sustainable returns to its members.;;;;Also under the Act, a Board of six members was appointed to manage each regional Corporation, consisting of four common directors and two regional directors. ;;;;The Act established at the same time a Common Services Corporation to assist the regional Corporations and whose members are, at the time of incorporation, the regional Corporations.;;;;The Water and Sewerage Industry Act 2008 was also enacted to provide for the establishment of an economic regulatory framework for the water and sewerage industry. Included as part of this was the establishment of a licensing regime and the appointment of an economic Regulator who independently sets prices, customer service standards and monitors performance of the industry.;;;;According to the Water and Sewerage Corporation Act 2012, on 1 July 2013 the Tasmanian Water and Sewerage Corporation, trading as TasWater took over the water and sewerage services and assets previously operated by Ben Lomond Water, Cradle Mountain Water and Southern Water.
