The Board was established by the Tasmanian Government to provide the high level drive and governance needed to deliver a major suite of water infrastructure projects, primarily the eleven irrigation schemes investigated under the Sustainable Management of Agricultural Resources in Tasmania (SMART) farming proposal.;;;;The Board reported directly to the Minister for Primary Industries and Water.;;;;On 1 July 2011 Tasmanian Irrigation Pty Ltd was established to merge the responsibilities of the former Rivers and Water Supply Commission and the RWSC's two subsidiaries, Tasmanian Irrigation Development Board Pty Ltd and Tasmanian Irrigation Schemes Pty Ltd.
