Description:
The Board is constituted with members who are nominated by the Minister for Education and by the Local Government Association of Tasmania to represent the community. The Board was created under the provisions of the Libraries Act 1984. The Act set down the functions of the Board as follows:;;;;(a) to consider and report on matters referred to it by the Secretary;;(b) to advise the Minister and the Secretary on the administration of the Libraries Act;;(c) to advise the Minister and the Secretary on such other matters as it thinks fit;;(d) to make recommendations to the Minister in respect of such matters as it thinks fit or in respect of such matters as the Minister may require;;(e) to advise the Minister and the Secretary on policies affecting the delivery of library services;;(f) to advise the Minister and the Secretary on issues affecting the provision of reference and information services by the State Library Service including, in particular, the public's right of access to information and ideas;;(g) to submit to the Secretary as soon as practicable after 30th June in each financial year, a report of its affairs and activities in relation to that financial year.;;
