Description:
The Local Government Office was set up to assist the Minister in charge of local government. The Office was principally concerned with the administration of the Local Government Act. ;;;;Despite occasional changes in administrative arrangements the functions of the Office remained relatively unchanged until 18 September 1998. However in this time it became part of different agencies including Department of Environment and Planning, Dept of Environment and Land Management, Department of Construction and Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources.;;;;In 1996 the Local Government Office was transferred to the Department of Premier and Cabinet and in October 2000 after an internal review the Local Government Office became the Local Government Division.
