Description:
On 17 August 1987 the Hydro-Electric Commission Amendment Act was passed by state parliament. Two days later the body corporate initially known as the Hydro-Electric Commission Enterprises Corporation held its first board meeting. The Corporation's role was to provide to the electricity supply industry and related industries; consultancy services, project management and project development services, maintenance services and to provide training to electricity supply and related industry workers. In September 1995 the HEC Enterprises Corporation Act was passed allowing for the name change. The Corporation held its last meeting on the 17 June 1998 and the body was dissolved on 1 July 1998 as part of the disaggregation of the Hydro-Electric Commission. This resulted in the division of the formerly government-owned department into three companies; Hydro Tasmania which generates the power, Transend Networks which transmits it across the state, and Aurora Energy, the retail arm, which sells and distributes it to customers.
