The Board met (usually under instruction from the Lieutenant Governor) to enquire into the mental health of an individual and to recommend whether they should be placed in an asylum.

I have been unable to find any legislation or Govt notice setting up these boards.The earliest references found were in CSO22/46p.40 & CSO22/48p.9-17
