Description:
The Trustees, half of whom were nominated by the Royal Society and half by the government, were charged with management and oversight of the Museum and Gardens, previously operated by the Royal Society. The Trust was a mechanism to give the Society a continuing say in the management of institutions it had created but could no longer afford to maintain. The creating Act was amended on 29 November 1950 and separate Boards of Trustees were established for the Museum and the Botanical Gardens. Under the terms of the 1950 amendment the Trustees were given time to complete the transfer of the properties and the settlement of their affairs. The Governor did not repeal the 1885 and 1950 Acts until 25 May 1953 (TGG p.1378).~
