Description:
The Council was established under the Advanced Education Act 1968 to provide a system of advanced education via the Tasmanian College of Advanced Education (TCAE) and in such other technical colleges in the state. The TCAE was also established under this Act.;;;;The Council's role was broadranging in regards to the TCAE, being responsible for staffing, construction and maintenance of the premises and the provision and maintenance of TCAE property. The Council was also empowered to appoint the Principal and the Registrar of the College. With the Minister's approval, the Council could also arrange for the provision of advanced education at other technical colleges in the state.;;;;From the late 1970's the Council was increasingly referred to as the Tasmanian Council of Advanced Education though its name was never officially changed.;;;;The Council ceased with the repeal of the 1968 Act under the Higher Education (Amalgamation) Act 1990 which amalgamated the University of Tasmania, the Tasmanian State Institute of Technology and the Australian Maritime College.
