Description:
The aquisition and disposal of land for closer settlement. After World War I the Board's responsibilities were widened to include Soldier Settlement schemes. Its functions were merged with those of the Agricultural Bank. Closer Settlement Board: Parliamentary reports Published separate records 1907 - 24 Oct 1919, 1919-1920 separate reports, but under Closer Settlement Act and Returned Soldiers Settlement Act. 1920 -1921 separate report of Closer Settlement and Returned Soldiers Settlement Department. 1921 - 1925 Report Returned Soldiers and Closer Settlement Department. 1925 - 1931 Report published in Lands Department report. [1924 Lands Department known as Lands, Survey and Closer Settlement Department]. 1929 20 Geo V No.77. An act to consolidate and amend the law relating to Closer Settlement & Soldier Settlement, & to provide for the acquisition and reservation of lands for the purpose thereof. Repealed Closer Settlement & Returned Soldiers Settlement Acts. New Closer Settlement Board constituted. 1931 22 Geo V No.57 Closer Settlement Act amended Closer Settlement Act 1929, and transferred Board to Agricultural Bank.
