Description:
Service the Government's printing requirements, including the production of legislation, parliamentary papers and government gazettes,and the production or precurement of general printing required by government agencies. The office is required by statute to be self-financing. The Government Printer's Department was reconstituted as a public corporation as from 1 July 1948. The Government Printer is a corporation sole and staff of the office remained under the Public Service, later State Service Act. The name of the Department was formally changed to government Printing Office in 1952 by amending the Public Service Regulations. As part of a general re-organisation of the Tasmanian State Service, on 17 July 1989, the Office was amalgamated with the Supply and Tender Department and the Electoral Department to form the Department of Administrative Services. The office operated as a Division of DAS and then of its successor DASCA. Following the change of government DASCA was abolished on 18 February 1992 and the Government Printing Office became a division of the Department of Treasury and Finance for administrative purposes.~
