Description:
The District was created by amalgamating the Burnie and Wynyard Districts. The Burnie and Spencer hospitals were merged as the North Western General Hospital. Waratah Municipality was added to the District on 25 June 1968, at which time the Department transferred control of the Waratah and Savage River District Nursing Centres to the Board (SR1968/96). Penguin Municipality was not added to the District until 18 June (SR1968/95). The next stage of amalgamation came on 12 January 1989 when Burnie/Wynyard was merged into the North West Regional Public Hospitals District (SR1989/1).~
