History note:
James Glen Wilson was a landscape painter, naval photographer and surveyor. Born in County Down, Ireland, he joined the Royal Navy in 1852 as a member of the survey vessel HMS Herald, on the expedition to the South Seas. This expedition aimed to explore the area embraced by New South Wales, New Zealand, the Kermadec group of islands, Tonga, Fiji, the New Hebrides and New Caledonia.
