Notes:
Brickfields, located where the North Hobart Oval now stands, was the site of the original Hobart Town Brickfields in 1844. It then became home to convict women awaiting hire as domestic servants, housed in buildings at the Domain end of the oval. The buildings were later used as an immigration depot and finally an invalid depot, for men only from 1859, closing in 1882. Cascades Invalid Depot was in operation from 1869-1879, catering for women 1869-1874, and men 1869-1879. The Launceston Invalid Asylum or Invalid Depot was established in 1868 by refurbishing the old Military Barracks in what is now Royal Park. It peaked with around 200 inmates in mid 1897, closing in 1912. A home for invalids was built in South Launceston in 1913, which ran until 1954 when it was replaced by Cosgrove Park for the Aged. The New Town Charitable Institution opened on the 1st of January 1874, closing on the 31st of December 1912. Originally used for the overflow of female convicts, from 1879 the building was also used for female and male invalids and lying in cases. The Port Arthur Invalid Depot, catering for men, operated between 1855-1877.
